White octuple tube (also known as PCR tube) is a small plastic tube used in molecular biology laboratories, typically for polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Eight connected tubes are usually cylindrical in shape, with a length of about 1.5 inches (about 38 millimeters) and a diameter of about 0.2 inches (about 5 millimeters), capable of accommodating approximately 0.2 to 0.5 milliliters of liquid. They are usually loaded into a plastic plate called a PCR plate, with 8 rows and 12 columns of eight connected tubes on each plate, for a total of 96 tubes, to facilitate high-throughput PCR experiments. In PCR experiments, white octuples are commonly used to preserve PCR reaction mixtures, which include DNA templates, primers, enzymes, and nucleotides. These mixtures undergo several temperature cycles to amplify target DNA fragments, and the efficient design of the eight tube allows researchers to conduct multiple PCR reactions simultaneously in the same experiment, greatly improving the efficiency of the experiment.
